What does the ID Specialty Dental Clinic do?
The primary goal of the ID Specialty Dental Clinic is to provide a full spectrum of dental services for adults living with HIV, including emergency care, restorative care, and preventive oral treatment and education. Services may include oral medicine, radiology, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics and operative dentistry.
Comprehensive care includes the following:
- Periodontics (gum care)
Preventive oral treatment includes cleanings, the distribution of fluoride kits to be taken home for use in the prevention of future dental problems, and dental education.
Why is it important to go to the dentist?
Regular, ongoing dental visits and treatment are critical to minimizing long-term dental complications for people living with HIV infection. Every new specialty dental client receives an individualized treatment plan designed to improve the client’s oral health, nutritional intake, and overall quality of life.
