With work underway on a new Ambulatory Surgical Center and the launch of new behavioral health and addiction recovery programs, University Medical Center New Orleans continues to expand services and increase access to care for the region.

Over the past 18 months, University Medical Center’s growth has included the opening of a Burn Center, Primary Care Center, and the launch of a Center for Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery and Palliative Medicine Program.

The $14 million Ambulatory Surgical Center, which will be located at the corner of South Claiborne and Tulane avenues in an existing building, will expand University Medical Center’s capacity by five surgical suites and two endoscopy rooms. It will improve access and operating efficiency by accommodating outpatient surgeries and procedures, freeing up the medical center’s existing operating rooms for more complex procedures.

Construction on the new surgical center is expected to be completed in February 2020.

Expanded access to behavioral health and addiction treatment services

University Medical Center recently launched several new services to expand access to behavioral health and addiction treatment services, including:

Addiction psychiatry services for patients living with a single diagnosis of addiction or with a dual diagnosis of addiction and a mental health disorder.

The clinic provides medication management services to support patients’ therapeutic needs and short- and long-term psychotherapy to address the unique and complex needs of patients and families.
