About Spirit of Charity Foundation
The Spirit of Charity Foundation’s contributions to the growth and historical preservation of the legacy of Charity Hospital are essential to our beloved city and its surrounding parishes as we pay homage to the founder of Charity Hospital, Jean Louis and seek to continue his spirit of generosity to the disadvantaged of our region. In doing this, the Foundation continues to promote what Charity Hospital has stood for; the ideals of humanism and caring for the most vulnerable in our society.
Founded in 1993, the Foundation has traditionally supported the medical needs of our most vulnerable populations in our region. The Foundation has raised the level of patient care at Charity and University Hospitals, the Interim LSU Hospital and now, at University Medical Center New Orleans. You help continue our nearly 300-year legacy of caring for those marginalized by societal inequities… and standing tall during adversity.
As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are not a part of any other major healthcare nonprofit. We operate and raise all funds to continue our mission to support and facilitate patient-centered care, actively promote health and wellness and to advance medical research and education for the benefit of University Medical Center, its patients, and friends. Our Tax ID# is 72-1251751.
