Patient units are located in the three, color-coded Patient Towers. Tower 1 is Orange, Tower 2 is Green and Tower 3 is Purple.
The room numbering system at University Medical Center is organized such that:
- The first number is the FLOOR number
- The second number is the TOWER number
- The next two digit number is the patient ROOM number
Using this system, Room 6324 is the sixth floor of Tower 3 in room 24.

To maintain a healing environment, University Medical Center is a smoke-free campus. Please refrain from smoking, vaping, or using or using any form of tobacco on our campus including grounds, buildings and parking areas. If you are a patient, please let your nurse know if you are having problems with not being able to smoke. A nicotine patch can be prescribed by your physician while you are in the hospital. If you want to quit smoking, we offer free adult counseling sessions for all patients. Call our smoking cessation coordinator at 504.702.5178.
University Medical Center is a Safe Haven site for babies. If you are unable to care for your baby and the baby's well-being is in danger, you can bring the newborn up to 60 days old to our hospital or any emergency designated facility or Safe Haven site.
By leaving the baby in the care of an employee at a Safe Haven facility, parents can give up custody of the newborn with no questions asked.
Parents do not have to give their name or any other information. Safe Haven employees keep everything confidential. Parents can call 1.800.CHILDREN (1.800.244.5373) to learn about their parental rights or anonymously give medical information about their baby to be used for adoption purposes.
