Clinical Nursing Education

Giving Our New Orleans Hospital Staff the Tools They Need

University Medical Center’s Clinical Education Department supports the hospital's commitment to exceptional patient care by promoting educational opportunities, training, and professional development. We provide these programs to the University Medical Center nursing staff, as well as to nursing professionals in the surrounding communities in a cost-effective, flexible and productive manner.

Our role is to:

  • Continually assess the educational needs of nursing staff throughout the organization and the community
  • Plan, design, implement, promote, and evaluate all educational activities for nursing staff using principles of evidence-based practice and latest technology based on need
  • Participate, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department, in nurse-specific orientation education programs
  • Collaborate with quality improvement, risk management, and all departments to respond to the needs for nurse-related educational activities
  • Identify the placement needs of nurse training programs and facilitate the placement of groups within the organization
  • Enable and monitor the activities of nurse training programs visiting our institution to ensure compliance of organizational policies and procedures

American Heart Association

  • Heart Saver AED & BLS Healthcare Providers - In this classroom-based course, which includes return demonstration, providers enhance skills in identifying and treating adult victims of basic cardiac arrest and respiratory emergencies. View the flyer: BLS Healthcare Providers
  • BLS Heartcode & BLS Healthcare Providers Online Part 1 & 2 - In this hybrid web-based course, which includes return demonstration, providers enhance skills in identifying and treating adult victims of basic cardiac arrest and respiratory emergencies. View the flyer: BLS Heartcode

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Course - In this classroom-based course, which includes return demonstration, providers enhance skills in identifying and treating pediatric victims of cardiac arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies

Emergency Nurses Association courses

  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) – Designed to provide emergency nurses with core knowledge and psychomotor skills to care for the pediatric emergency patient including trauma. View the flier: Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC)
  • The Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) – Focuses on core knowledge and skills related to the trauma patients of all ages.
