A Message from the Director
Dr. Adam Riker, MD FACS
Surgical Oncologist and Director of the Breast Health Program at UMC
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce our comprehensive care team to you. As the new Chief of Surgical Oncology at LSU Health New Orleans and Director of the Comprehensive Breast Health Program at University Medical Center New Orleans, we are completely invested into the structured growth, development, and future success of the Comprehensive Breast Health Program at UMC.
When you are diagnosed with breast cancer, it can be a daunting task to navigate the fears and complexities and to understand and effectively deal with this life-changing event. There is an overwhelming amount of information to be discussed, and we understand that this is a very frightening and overwhelming experience.
It is my job to ensure that you understand all of the treatment options available to you as well as the sequence of these options, the role of non-surgical approaches such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and so much more. As your breast surgeon, I will help to guide you through the entire process from your operation and breast reconstruction (when applicable), to the continued care after your operation with your medical and radiation oncologist (when necessary).
It is our overriding goal to provide each and every one of our patients with compassionate, comprehensive, and understandable treatment options that will allow us to treat you as a team throughout the entire journey of your breast cancer treatment. Ultimately, we strive for not just good patient outcomes, but outstanding patient outcomes, with our only goal being for you to become a long-term survivor and cured from your breast cancer. Anything short of this is simply unacceptable to us. We look forward to helping you and your loved ones affected with breast cancer.
