Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program

About our program

University Medical Center New Orleans is proud to be a leader in medical care, research, and training as the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and Burn Center and the state’s largest academic medical center.

Our Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program offers candidates the opportunity to be part of one of the most innovative and impactful healthcare organizations in Louisiana. Clinical Pastoral Education is interfaith professional education for ministry. It brings theological students and members of all faiths (pastors, priests, rabbis, imams, and others) into supervised encounter with people in crisis.

Out of an intense involvement with people in need, and the feedback from peers and teachers, students develop new awareness of themselves as persons and the needs of those to whom they minister. From theological reflection on specific human situations, they gain a new understanding of ministry. Within the interdisciplinary team process of helping people, they develop skills in interpersonal and interprofessional relations.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2020-2021 year long program.
